Introduction...A little bit about me!

I am officially a Graduate Student!!! Hi! My name is Ashley Szerba and I am attending the University of North Florida to continue my education. For those who do not know me, I am an eager student ready for a bright future. I have chosen this masters program to enhance my skills in the beautiful language of American Sign Language (ASL) and to follow my passion of helping those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. My experience with the language started in high school when I took my first ASL class, from there I fell in love. I have spent most of my life here and would call Jacksonville, Florida my hometown. I originally attended the University for my convenience and to stay close to my loved ones throughout my years as an undergraduate, however, I slowly learned that the University had a lot to offer.  This institution has provided me with many opportunities to gain knowledge of those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. I have been in classrooms with students who are using total communication and strict ASL. My classmates and professors in this program have been inspirational with their beaming passions to help others. When a passion meets a career it is a beautiful thing.

What are five interesting pieces about me?

  • I was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • I am the middle child, blessed with two amazing sisters
  • I have ran three half marathons with the forth one planned for February next year
  • I am now an alumni member of the organization Zeta Tau Alpha
  • I am a Navy dependent, having lived up and down the east coast of the U.S. but have never even visited the west coast
